Wet and dry risers are used by the Fire Service to extinguish fires promptly using considerable quantities of water. This system of valves and pipework enables the Fire Service to pump water onto upper floors of a building without having to make their way up. Therefore these systems are ideal for use in buildings that are over 18 metres above ground level, and in low level buildings with excessive distances (usually more than 60m) from the entrance.
Alberta has a team of engineers who can install, service and maintain wet and dry riser systems. Such systems must be visually inspected regularly and serviced annually.
