Fire Suppression Systems

Alberta has extensive experience in the design, installation and servicing of fixed fire suppression systems.  Engineered Fire suppression systems utilize agents such as CO2, FM200, Argonite and water mist.

FM 200 Systems

FM200 has been universally accepted as the most suitable extinguishing method to supersede Halon 1301.  It boasts a superior extinguishing performance and rapid fire knockdown within ten seconds.  This can potentially save a lot of money’s worth of damage to high end equipment and the consequent loss of production.

Typical applications for FM200 include machinery, control and ventilation spaces, communications and computer rooms, control rooms and flammable liquid hazards.

The advantages of FM200 include its ability to rapidly extinguish flames with minimal oxygen reduction and no ozone depletion potential.  It can be used in occupied and unoccupied areas, leaves no residue, is electrically non-conductive and uses welded low pressure storage containers.

Carbon Dioxide Systems

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is a naturally occurring gas and an excellent extinguishing agent that extinguishes fires by reducing the oxygen level below that which sustains combustion.

After extinguishing a fire, it fully vaporises, leaving no residue, mess or water damage.  It is non-corrosive and can therefore be used in areas containing food, electrical equipment, antiques or archive materials.

CO2 has been successfully used in a variety of applications including transformer stations, paint spray booths, flammable liquid storage areas, printing presses and other process machinery, turbines and generators as well as in several marine settings.  On the other hand, CO2 is not recommended in manned areas as it is toxic at the concentrations required to extinguish fire.

CO2 is a naturally occurring gas and therefore has a low agent cost and no ozone depletion potential.

Argonite Systems

Argonite is a fast acting fire extinguishing agent that is environmentally neutral.  It is safe for occupied areas and leaves no residue, resulting in very little downtime after a fire.

Argonite systems have been developed as a viable and environmentally friendly alternative for Halon.  Tested and approved by regulatory bodies throughout the world, Argonite is effective against fires on almost all combustible materials and flammable liquids and is particularly suitable for use in areas where the use of water, foam or powder is not possible.  It offers the same solution as a CO2 system but is harmless to humans.

Alberta has been working with Ginge Kerr since 1999 and is the exclusive certified company in Malta that installs and commissions Argonite Systems.

Water Mist Systems

Water mist systems provide safe fire protection for occupied spaces and critical assets using water, which is deployed as a highly efficient fine water spray.

Due to its exceptionally high heat-absorbing capacity and latent heat of vaporisation, water is an outstanding physical-acting agent.  Water mist works to quench fire and keep damage to a minimum. The water mist system is designed to extinguish fires using limited quantities of water, as compared to standard sprinkler systems.  The water is discharged through specifically engineered nozzles that transform the flow into fine droplets.

The use of water as a fine mist from standalone systems provides a highly efficient means of fire protection, requiring considerably less agent than that which is associated with traditional deluge and spray systems.
